Interview with Dream Spectrum at WBNY (91.3FM) 2/18/16

Jeff Chapman: We have Dream Spectrum in the studio. Hi everybody! From left to right, if you want to say who you are and what you do, and go around the semicircle.

Todd Glosser: Alright, my name’s Todd Glosser, I’m the rhythm guitarist.

Jake Schoenle: Hey, I’m Jake Schoenle, I’m the drummer.

Sam Osmond: My name’s Sam Osmond, I play lead guitar.

Alex Braun: My name is Alex Braun, I play bass.

JC: Now, Dream Spectrum is an outfit that came [to WBNY] early last semester. I thought they were great. And I don’t hurl superlatives. This stuff was really good. You guys are technically sound, and you’re all aged between 15 and 19 still. What was killer about it was that not only are you guys, you know, relatively young, and you’re early on in your musical careers, it was so refreshing and it was cool. I know there’s always room to improve, but you blew me out of the water.

Ian Loretto: Technically, you guys have a lot of talent.

JC: So, we’re gonna talk a little bit about you guys, and just what’s coming up. I want to talk about your album, Emotion in Motion. How did it all come together?

SO: How did it come together? I can tell you the story about the band, I’ll keep it short.

JC: Sure.

SO: I mean, we just got together, as I would say all bands do, you know, just playing covers. Next thing you know is we have a pretty unique sound. All of a sudden we started just writing songs, with this instrumental guitar, melodic sound. As soon as we started writing them, we realized, “Hey, we got something different; we got something worth checking out." We put songs together and next thing you knew we had ten songs. And they were great, they were awesome. We made the decision to go to the studio, and it just turned out great. Everything just fell into place for us.

JC: How long have you guys been together as a cohesive unit?

SO: Actually, I was just talking about this with Todd. We’ve really only been together as the four of us for less than a year.

JC: When we heard you a few months ago, it just floored me. It was just like, “Wow.”...When the drive is there, and the passion is there, you can feel it in the room....You guys told me before that you’ve played in Buffalo a few times. What can we expect? What is it going to be like?

SO: To anyone who’s never heard Dream Spectrum, first off, prepare to be entertained. We strive to put on as entertaining of a show as possible. Our music can best be described as high-octane, intense music. You’ll be fascinated with what you hear; it’s going to be something totally unique, but still melodic and entertaining. Our music is fast-paced, and at the same time, you can sing along to it the entire time. We have tunes with tempos you can dance to, and tunes you can bang your head to; we have a little bit of everything.

IL: I have a question for you guys, I was talking to you guys a little bit before about it. You guys released a music video a couple weeks ago, so why don’t you talk about that for a little bit? It was all in the woods; it must’ve been cold!

TG: I believe it was like 25 degrees outside.

SO: No way, man! 14 [degrees]! 18 mile per hour winds. It was MISERABLE!

JC: Where was it?

JS: That was actually in my backyard, in the woods.

SO: It was like a wind tunnel back there. You can see at the end of the video, we walk down a lane of trees. Somehow it just created a wind tunnel, and the winds were insane. We were out there without any gloves, cause you can’t play with gloves, and we couldn’t run the song all the way through without our fingers wanting to fall off.

JS: We would just do half a take, and then run in and wash our hands off with hot water.

IL: Who shot the video? Who edited it? Did you do it all yourselves?

SO: Yeah!

JS: Yeah, Sam and I [edited it], and obviously, [Alex and Todd] put in their input as well.

JC: Ok, we’re gonna play one of their songs right now. The track is going to be called Even So, it’s off the album Emotion in Motion. You want to say something about it?

SO: Yeah, absolutely. This is a unique tune of ours. A little different from some of our other stuff, but still just as happening and still just as intense. This is the tune we were just talking about [before]. We recorded the music video out in the woods. We were playing all white guitars. Real cool video, check it out! It’s got a really airy, just cool vibe.

JC: So right there, that was track 10 off the Dream Spectrum Emotion in Motion album. You can find that video where?

SO: Right on YouTube. Or you can go to our band webpage, dreamspectrumband.com. We have information about upcoming shows, and anything else. It’s all over the internet. We make sure we’re there.

JC: Do you guys have anything else for me?

SO: No, I just want to say thank you for having us here, it was a pleasure.

JC: Thank you for coming.

SO: It was a great time.

JC: Like I said, these guys are Dream Spectrum. They’re gonna blow you out of the water. For more information, what’s the website again for you boys?

SO: Our website is dreamspectrumband.com. We got anything that you want on there, we have information about us, videos, we have our album for sale.
